Farewell/ Rachel's Summer Wishlist

Today marks the end of the journey with this blog. I will however keep posting on my other blog Fashion Newsie. This by far has been my favorite assignment in our CBCM 2400 class. It is a good reminder that I need to update my other blog on a more regular basis.
Going through my closet today, I realized I have not bought new summer clothes in quite some time. I'm loving a lot of the new summer styles I have been seeing in magazines, on tv, and street styles. Here are some of the items I am craving to have in my summer wardrobe.

Tropical prints are everywhere lately. If done correctly, it can look very chic. You can find this top here

I realized I do not own a pair of white shorts. The color white is a refreshing color for summer. You can find these shorts here

The dream of the 90's is alive with overalls becoming a trend for summer. You have to be careful with overalls. If done incorrectly, you can look like a little kid or look like your going to a 90's themed party . You can modernize them by wearing a heel/wedge or have a colored overall like the ones in this picture here.

Floral prints are a favorite every spring/summer season. I love these two tops from Forever 21. You can find them here and here

I've hoped you enjoyed reading my blog! Let me know what you think!

Summer Job

Today I got official confirmation that I will be working at Flight Deck Trampoline in Arlington,Texas! Flight Deck is a trampoline park where both the young and old can enjoy. The park offers a foam pit, dodgeball, vertical aerobics, and a frozen yogurt bar.
To get the job, there was an interview process where they asked questions about yourself, your previous job experience, what position at the company you think you would be best suited for, etc. Then, the second part of the interview was to pass a Red Cross CPR test.  The Arlington location opens May 9th. To find out more information about the park you can click here.

Lana Del Rey Concert

The Lana Del Rey concert took place today at Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas.  I was very excited about this concert because she is one of my favorite artists.  I would describe her music as  retro 60's sounding with a mix of different genres of music.
The day that her concert tickets went on sale, I woke up at 7 in the morning to make sure my friend and I got the best seats we could possibly get. I was very impressed with the seats we got. The seats were pretty close to the main stage. The concert itself was very entertaining. She played for about an hour and thirty minutes.  She is as good live as she is on her album. I liked how much she engaged with her fans. At the end of her show, she got off the stage and took pictures with all of the people that were near the front of the stage. She definitely loves and respects her fans. Here are some pictures and video of the concert.

Austin City Limits 2014

The 2014 Austin City Limits lineup was announced today. The infamous concert takes place every year in Austin, Texas at Zilker Park. The concert features a variety of different artists to suit all music tastes. The lineup has big headliner names and up and coming artists. I have never been to the concert myself, but I would love to go! This year, I am trying to get a group of friends to go. The tickets are pricey ( $225), but I'ver heard from every person that has attended the festival that it is worth every penny.

I've heard if you want to attend the concert, you need to buy the tickets as soon as possible. Every year, the tickets sell out for both weekends in a quick amount of time.  Some of the music acts I am excited to see if I attend are Outkast,Calvin Harris, Lana Del Rey,  Lorde, Foster The People, The Avett Brothers, Belle & Sebastian,  Broken Bells, Childish Gambino, Chvrches, Iggy Azalea, St Vincent, and Miniature Tigers. You can find out more information about the concert here  What Music acts are you excited to see at Austin City Limits? Are you impressed by the lineup this year? Let me know in the comment section!

E Cigarettes

Last semester for NTTV, I did a story over electronic cigarettes.  The story is about the City of Denton banning the use of electronic cigarettes in public places. This story was interesting to me because I had no knowledge about electronic cigarettes prior to doing this story. The people I interviewed were very passionate about E Cigarettes and how the product has helped them and their customers.  Let me know what was good about this news package and what I can improve on.

Well Suited

One of my favorite fashion trends right now is the menswear look for women. This look is perfect to transition from a day at the office to a night out on the town. By adding a few accessories to your look, you can easily stand out from the crowd. A suit is a perfect way to make a bold statement into any room you enter. One of my favorite menswear looks is the outfit Diane Keaton in Annie Hall.  Her outfit in Annie Hall was almost if not as iconic as the movie itself. Here is the way I styled the menswear look.

Festival Fashion

Lately, I have been inspired by music festival fashions.  I always look forward every year to the upcoming fashion trends that will appear at music festivals. The looks there inspire the outfits I want to wear during the summer. On my other blog, I am doing a series of festival fashion looks that I hope will inspire my readers to pull together their own festival fashion looks. Check it out!

Update on My Day

Hello!
Sorry about the timeliness of my blog post. Today was extremely busy for me. I had math class today at UNT. Then, right after math class, I had to drive back to my hometown in Arlington Texas for a job interview. Right after my job interview for Flight Deck Trampoline Park, I went straight to my church's Good Friday service and the festivities lasted until about 12 am. The craziness of this day paid off because I got a call today saying that they wanted me to attend the CPR training session tomorrow from  8 A.M. to 1 P.M. I'm not crazy about having to wake up at 7 A.M. on a Saturday but I am very excited about my potential job opportunity. Hopefully everything works out!

Cafe Herrera News Package

One of my passions in life is Broadcast Journalism.I love reporting because you go out on the field and cover a story. You get to meet all different types of people you otherwise would never meet. I enjoy having the opportunity to tell other peoples stories. Currently, I volunteer at NTTV as a reporter. I always look forward to Thursday afternoons when I volunteer to find out what new story I will get to cover.

Recently, I was given the opportunity to cover a new mexican restaurant in the Denton area.  I love covering food stories. I get to combine two things I love, reporting and food. What's not to love! The video of my story is below.
I would love to hear feedback about my news package. The good, bad, and anything I need to improve on. I like getting constructive criticism so I can become a better reporter.

An Introduction To Myself

Hello!

When I heard about the blogging assignment in our class I was quite excited about it because I actually have my own blog! I blog quite regularly and I love it! I started blogging at the beginning of this year as one of my new years resolutions. I was inspired to start blogging from a fashion journalism conference I attended in November.  My blog is a fashion/entertainment blog and I take it seriously. Here is a link to one of my blog posts, it is an introduction to myself. Check it out! http://fashionnewsie.blogspot.com/2014/01/an-introduction.html?spref=fb
